We stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and in support of strategic actions taken to eradicate structural racism in STEM fields. We recognize that Black and Brown people have been intentionally and systematically marginalized. We understand that this has caused a lack of opportunities in STEM. For these historically underserved communities, disenfranchisement goes beyond occupation and employments. It permeates early exposure and access to STEM which are minimized by design. This is indicative of broader systemic racism.

We know it is not enough to simply acknowledge this fact. We are committed to working intentionally to affect the positive changes we all wish to see and benefit from. We have been reflecting on our work and learning from stakeholders. But we cannot make these changes alone. With our committed partnership, we can make the Metro North STEM Network more just, equitable, and inclusive.

With this commitment, we will continue to connect, listen, and learn from our partners and stakeholders to be of better service. We welcome your input on ways we can better meet your needs, and particularly the needs of youth and young adults who have been overlooked as participants in STEM.
