Welcome!

Hello all! Welcome to latest edition of the Chelsea and Somerville newsletter. This time around, we have lots of summer options for students, and quite a few for 14 year olds. I would recommend getting your applications in ASAP to give yourself the best chance to get hired for the summer. I’ll be at Somerville on Tuesdays and Chelsea on Wednesdays until the end of the year if you want help applying for any of these jobs!

Some things to know before reading:

• A rolling deadline means that they are accepting applications until the position is filled

• To access the jobs, click on the link in the What portion of the job description

• For seniors, the 18 and up job options would be great for you after graduation to make some money during the summer as well as during your post graduation life.

• All jobs are part time, if they are not part time, I will make a note of the hour requirements. Part time generally means 10-20 hours a week.

• If you are 18, you can apply to any of the jobs listed here.

• You’ll need a resume to apply to most of these jobs, if you don’t have a resume, make an appointment with me and we can make one!

Currently Hiring

14 and up:

Note: The summer programs are actively trying to hire 14 year olds. The year long positions can hire 14 year olds, but they don’t always because of the legal restrictions on work for 14 year olds. The summer programs are a good opportunity to get work experience!

BreakThroughGreater Boston: Summer
What: As a Junior Teaching Fellow you will help with delivering lessons, leading small groups, supporting students, and helping plan program events. You will work 20 hours a week from June 15th to August 16th.
Where: At a BreakThrough Greater Boston location in Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston

Somerville High School Internship: Summer

What: As a High School Intern for the Somerville Community Schools Program you will help plan activities for students in summer programs, monitor field trips, set up classrooms, and various office duties such as answering the phone and copying papers. The program runs from July 8thto August 9th and you’d work from 8:15 am to 4:15 pm. Somerville High Students are encouraged to apply.

Somerville High School Internship: Summer

What: As a Spell intern you’ll work with local children creating enriching and educational activities. Somerville High School students are encouraged to apply. The program will run from July 8th to August 2ndand you’d work Monday through Friday from 8 am to 1 pm.

Department of Public Works: Summer

What: The Department of Public Works is hiring a Summer Park Worker. The program will run from July 8th until August 23rd and you’ll be working with volunteers in the parks as well as monitoring parks, educating park patrons about rules,and keeping the parks clean. They don’t give an age range on the site, but they encourage students to apply, so 14 and up should try to apply!

Youth Build Boston: Summer and Year Round

What: This is a great program for students interested in Architecture and Design. You’ll learn about modeling and designing while working on design projects for places around the city. You’ll receive a bi weekly stipend for your work. They have programs during the summer as well as throughout the school year. It’s a little far, but if you are able to make the trek, go ahead and apply!

Mental Health Ambassador Program: Summer

What: As a Mental Health Ambassador, you will be given training and education on how to reduce stigma surrounding mental health and how to raise awareness of common mental health issues. You will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 1pm to 3 pm in Malden. The program runs from July 9th to August 15th.

What: As a Recreation Aide you’ll work at the Parks and Rec department and help with recreational activities around the city.

Lifeguard, City of Somerville: Summer

What: Lifeguard, 13 positions open. They need certification but will provide that upon hiring if you don’t already have it.

Temporary Sales Associate: Summer and Fall

What: The city is hiring a Temporary Sales Associate for the Mobile Farmers’ Market. You would work from June 17th to November 1st at the market. You’d be working as a cashier and helping with marketing.

What: CVS is hiring interns at all locations, the position allows you to create your own schedule. It is currently unpaid, but it almost always leads to a paid position.
