What does it mean to be an Essential Worker during the Covid-19 Pandemic?  That was the question posed to the 14-15 year old cohort in the Mayor’s 2020 Summer Youth Employment Program in Malden.  Their task?  To convey what it means to be an Essential Worker in a series of videos.  With funding from the YouthWorks program, the Malden youth first worked with MATV/UMA, Malden’s Media Center, in a filmbuilding workshop where three videos were produced.  Later in the Summer, they produced an hour long documentary under the instruction of James Valente, media teacher at Malden High.

All youth were first time filmmakers and they had the added challenge of planning and executing the whole project remotely over Zoom.  The results are outstanding!
