It’s summertime and once again the YouthWorks Summer Youth Employment Program is in full swing. YouthWorks, in partnership with local municipalities, public and private employers – affords youth across our urban and Gateway Cities, including Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Revere, and Somerville, their first or early work experiences. Members of the MassHire Metro North Youth Team are busy facilitating a 15-hour training in the Signal Success curriculum which provides pre-employment training on safety, teamwork, and interpersonal skills development to help ensure positive work experiences and outcomes. These programs are made possible in thanks in part to state funding from the YouthWorks Summer grant, administered by Commonwealth Corporation.

Spotlight on YouthWorks in Revere:

The City of Revere has expanded their YouthWorks summer jobs from placements only in Parks and Recreation to placements throughout multiple city departments, private business, and nonprofits. One of these placements is Massachusetts General Hospital which recently began partnering with the city of Revere to provide summer job opportunities for youth in Revere. At Mass General students work in various departments, including nursing, pharmacy, patient transport, research labs and more. To maximize their experience with young people, students’ supervisors participate in a program orientation and training, and students receive additional support through weekly workshops focused on personal and professional development.
