This summer Groundworks Somerville hired a cohort of Green Team Members for expansive leadership development, soft skills training and environmental justice advocacy engagement. Through learning fundamental farming skills, the youth developed keen understanding of the importance of a healthy climate in agricultural practices.

The youth were challenged to step outside their comfort zone and display their best leadership skills. Sabia Miahjee (right) enhanced her leadership skills through her active participation in the Signal Success curriculum and directly applying it in her role at Groundworks Somerville. As a returning Green Team Member, Sabia served as a team lead on weekly projects, including delegating tasks at their garden. Sabia exhibited superior communication skills, managerial and supervisory practices, and extensive knowledge on the work being done. Her demonstration of these skills is a testament to the effectiveness of youth programming and her level of readiness for college, career and beyond!

Go Sabia!
