Cambridge Brands Award for Retail Acadamy
English for New Bostonians held the “7th Annual Raising Our Voices” award ceremony on October 22, 2020.  As part of this year’s award, five employers were selected, state wide, to receive recognition for their commitment to improving the lives of their employees through helping them access English as a Second Language classes and programs.
This year, Cambridge Brands, was selected as one of the five employers to receive the award certificate, for their participation in the MassHire Metro North Workforce Board’s “Retail Academy” at Bunker Hill Community college, funded by a grant from the Walmart Corporation.   Diana White, Cambridge Brands’, Human Resources Manager worked closely with the workforce board staff to ensure that all student’s schedules were adjusted so that they could attend the evening classes.  The student’s attended a pre-English as a Second Language class to contextualize the four college classes consisting of Accounting, Professional Communication, Digital Literacy and Math.   During the actual classes the students were taught by a professor and an Adult Basic Education/English as a Second Language instructor.  The combination of the ELS classes and the ABE/ESL instructor ensured the success of the students.  Without Cambridge Brands’ willingness to identify candidates, arrange transportation, and adjust schedules the “Retail Academy” would not have enjoyed the great successes that it experienced.  Cambridge Brands has been a valued employer partner for the workforce board and a great advocate for its employees.  This was a well-deserved award recognizing Cambridge Brands and their staff, for their dedication to their employees and to the workforce development community.
